The power behind our accessories
The history of how beauty was made |
Jewelry has never only been about ornament. In fact, it has several purposes in African culture. All tribes have different meanings for their jewelry and some tribes use beads more than metal or organic materials. Jewelry can be used for religious activities and rituals, to show marriage status, show wealth in family, gender, rank in society and more. The oldest piece of African jewelry was found in the Blombo's cave and thought to be over 75,000 years old. It was made out of a snails shell since they used all organic materials. Jewelry have evolved through Egypt and Africa and now it is seen as a fashion statement in some countries. Although jewelry is going in different directions, the African tribes are still using the symbolism in jewelry to this day.
